CIWMB Building and Landscape Product Design Competition

The CIWMB sponsored a Tire-Derived Sustainable Building Product Design Competition, which was administered by the California Exposition and State Fair (Cal Expo). The purpose of this competition was to advance the concept of sustainable building and use of waste tires in building and landscape products. The participants in the competition developed prototypes of building or landscape products design and crafted with tires, crumb rubber and/or other tire-derived materials from California’s waste stream. The desired outcome of this competition was to assist in the development of markets and new technologies for California’s waste tires.

Eighty entries were received from 25 individuals and companies. Those entries were divided into two divisions, Individual or Group, Partnership, and/or Company; they then competed in one or more of the nine classes. Thirty-five products received an award of Bronze Medal or above, from 11 individuals or companies.

Winners of the competition were featured and displayed at the 2005 California State Fair in the California building until the close of the fair on September 5, 2005.
