Beverage Container Quality Infrastructure Grant Program

 

This program funds infrastructure that sorts materials from curbside recycling programs or drop-off collection programs to create cleaner, recyclable beverage container materials mostly free of contamination.

Eligibility

Funding

  • $50,000,000 is available for the fiscal year.
  • The minimum requested amount is $1,000,000.
  • The maximum grant award amount is $10,000,000.

Eligible Costs

Eligible costs include:

  • Equipment related to sorting materials, such as new lines, new belts, robotic arms, scales, optical sorters, and other equipment to provide a cleaner material.
  • Software technology related to sorting materials.
  • Combined costs for permitting, indirect costs, and salaries:
    • Not related to construction or installation.
    • May not exceed 5% of the total requested amount.

Eligible Projects:

Infrastructure costs related to sorting empty beverage container materials for:

  • Existing curbside programs
  • Collection/drop-off programs or
  • Community service programs.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Material Recovery Facility collaborating with Certified Curbside Programs.
  • Certified Curbside Programs.
  • Certified Collection/Drop-Off (CP) Programs.
  • Certified Community Service (SP) Programs.
  • Certified Processors.

An organizational type that provides one of the services listed includes:

  • Non-profit Organizations – Non-profit organizations (except private K-12 schools) registered with the federal government under 501(c)3, (c)6, or (c)10 of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Local Governments – California cities, counties, and other local government.
  • Private entities and for-profit businesses.
  • Public colleges and universities.
  • Qualifying Tribal Entities – Defined as a tribe, band, nation or other organized group of community residing within the borders of California, which:
    • Is recognized for special programs and services provided by the United States because of the status of its members as Native Americans or
    • Can establish it is a government entity that meets grant program criteria.
