CalRecycle Funds Cleanup of Illegal Dumpsites

SACRAMENTO–The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) has awarded $401,560 in cleanup grants to restore 13 agricultural properties in five counties through its Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement Grant Program. The vineyards, orchards, tribe land, and other farm and ranch lands have been overrun with illegally dumped appliances, scrap metal, tires, and vehicles parts.

CalRecycle Makes It Easy to Find Earth Day Events Statewide

SACRAMENTO–The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery is out with its annual Earth Day events calendar to help Californians take action toward a more sustainable future. On Earth Day—Monday, April 22—and throughout April and May, local events ranging from family-friendly activities to community service projects and cleanups give every Californian the opportunity to get involved.

Grants Help Communities Trashed by Illegal Dumping

SACRAMENTO–The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery just awarded $1 million in grants to help clear communities of illegally dumped materials. The CalRecycle funding will help the cities of Los Angeles, Norwalk, and Oakland improve the health and well-being of their residents by accelerating the cleanup of solid waste including abandoned furniture, tires, shopping carts, and other materials.

Camp Fire Debris Removal Set To Resume March 18

SACRAMENTO – Wildfire debris removal crews in Butte County will resume Camp Fire cleanup operations on March 18 following a temporary demobilization due to wet weather. The Camp Fire Incident Management Team reassessed site conditions and determined 80 debris removal crews, consisting of three to five workers each, could safely restart work Monday on properties participating in the state-managed Consolidated Debris Removal Program. Ten additional crews will begin work on Wednesday, March 20.

Weather Stops Work on Camp Fire Debris Removal

SACRAMENTO–The Incident Management Team for Camp Fire debris removal operations in Butte County has ordered the temporary demobilization all wildfire debris removal crews until March 19, 2019. The recent string of wet weather has created unsafe conditions with oversaturated soil for debris removal workers and truck drivers while limiting the ability of designated landfills to accept material.

CalRecycle Awards $71,000 to Clear Illegal Dumpsites

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery is awarding $71,132 in cleanup grants to restore public nature areas and animal grazing land in Lassen and Madera counties. The local sites are overrun with illegally dumped appliances, tires, household hazardous waste, electronic waste, construction scraps, and other debris, posing a threat to public health and the environment.

Local Economies Get Green Boost: $5.3 Million

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery approved $5.3 million in loans to two California companies to create new jobs, increase recycling infrastructure, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in California. The financing will help Peninsula Plastics Recycling, Inc. of Turlock (Stanislaus County) and U.S. Rubber Recycling, Inc. of Grand Terrace (San Bernardino County) expand their workforce while making use of an additional 17,300 tons of California-generated waste tires and plastic each year.

Border Checkpoints Put the Brakes on Recycling Fraud Schemes

SACRAMENTO–The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery is announcing the arrests of two drivers on charges of felony recycling fraud, attempted grand theft, and conspiracy following stings at temporary border checkpoints in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The suspects are accused of trying to smuggle more than 8,000 pounds of empty beverage containers from Arizona and Nevada into California in an attempt to defraud the California Redemption Value fund.

Debris Removal Underway in Historic Wildfire Recovery Missions

SACRAMENTO–Crews managed by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery have begun the removal of wildfire ash, debris, and contaminated soil on burned properties following an historic series of wildfires in Butte, Los Angeles, and Ventura counties. Over the next year, crews will work six-days-a-week to clear more than 15,000 properties destroyed in Camp, Woolsey, and Hill fires as part of the largest disaster debris removal operation in modern California history.

Road to Retail: Businesses Find New Use for 1.7 Million Waste Tires

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery has approved nearly $2.9 million in grant funding to nine companies that use California waste tires to make new products. Grants awarded through CalRecycle’s Tire Incentive Program reimburse businesses based on products sold, creating financial incentives for manufacturers to more competitively price and market their recycled content products.
