Webinar for Beverage Dealers – Inclusion of Wine and Distilled Spirits and other recent changes to the Beverage Container Recycling Program

The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) administers the Beverage Container Recycling Program (BCRP) pursuant to California’s Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act (Act).

SB 1013 was approved by Governor Newsom last year making wine and distilled spirits (WDS) subject to California Redemption Value (CRV) effective January 1, 2024. This means when beverage dealers purchase WDS from their distributors on and after January 1, 2024, their distributors will begin to charge dealers the applicable CRV. Beverage dealers will also begin to charge consumers appropriate CRV on WDS at point of sale.

SB 353 was approved by Governor Newsom last month adding additional changes that will impact beverage dealers regarding WDS, and 100% fruit juices and 100% vegetable juices in large containers.
