Increased Recycling of Empty Glass Beverage Containers Grant Program

 

To recycle more glass beverage containers, the Increased Recycling of Empty Glass Beverage Containers Grant Program funds regional pilot programs that supply bins for collecting empty glass beverage containers from:

  • Restaurants
  • Retail licensed establishments that sell beverages to drink onsite (on-sale), including:
    • On-sale beer and wine licenses
    • On-sale general licenses
    • On-sale general licenses for seasonal businesses

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Local governments 
  • Qualifying tribal entities 
  • Private, for-profit entities 
  • Non-profit entities 

Eligible Projects 

Eligible projects include: 

  • Establishing a regional pilot program that includes all of the following:

    • Purchasing bins for collecting empty glass beverage containers at:
      • Restaurants and
      • On-sale retail licensed establishments
    • Collecting and consolidating contents from the bins.
    • Transporting the collected empty glass beverage containers to a glass processing facility.

Eligible Costs:

  • Supplies and materials for collecting and consolidating glass beverage containers  
  • Personnel directly related to the project
  • Vehicles/Trucks
  • Transportation costs  

Funding

  • $4,000,000 available for each fiscal year. 
  • Up to $2,000,000 maximum available per applicant per fiscal year (FY).  
  • $500,000 minimum requested amount per applicant per fiscal year (FY). 
  • Applicants receiving grants from the grant program must expend an amount equal to or greater than the amount of the grant received to create and operate the pilot program.
