Proposed bonus credits would double recycling refunds to get surplus bottle and can deposits back to Californians

SACRAMENTO – A new plan could bring Californians an extra $100 million in bonus recycling credits and direct $155 million to expand mobile recycling and reverse vending machine locations for consumers to cash in their bottles and cans. The budget proposal would boost redemptions and expand recycling sites using $330 million of surplus unredeemed container deposits that grew with a record increase in beverage purchases during the pandemic.

California Tire Businesses Face $1.2 Million in Fines for Violating Tire Safety Rules that Deter Toxic Fire Danger

SACRAMENTO – To protect communities from toxic tire fires, illegal dumping and other risks of improper waste tire handling, California levied $1.2 million in penalties against three tire businesses for repeatedly violating waste tire management laws. Under the administrative decision and settlement agreements, the businesses in Sacramento, Riverside and Yolo counties will pay $918,000, and owe an additional $325,000 if new violations occur during the settlement period.
