Many local government agencies run programs that help households and small businesses recycle or properly dispose of their hazardous wastes. Additionally, some retailers will collect certain universal wastes, such as batteries.
Below is a list of websites of county agencies that manage hazardous waste. Follow these links to learn if your county has information on where to recycle or dispose of fluorescent lamps, batteries, electronic devices, and other common household hazardous waste. This site will be updated as we receive more information from local governments. You can also check Earth 911 for a universal waste collection program near you.
Will it cost me to recycle or dispose of these materials?
Whether you pay anything or not depends on what you are trying to recycle or dispose and where you live.
What if no appropriate recycling or disposal option is readily available?
One word: Patience. Laws and policies are rapidly evolving and may subject portions of your equipment to hazardous waste regulation. It is important to correctly manage these materials, and as the laws evolve, so too will options for managing your hazardous waste.
Look for other recycling opportunities to come to retail stores in your community.
