The CIWMB (now known as the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, or CalRecycle) conducted a $60,000 landscape management outreach program with participating jurisdictions in Orange County in 1999. A regional steering committee, working in alliance with local public agencies, waste management organizations, landscape industry associations and educators organized and implemented a series of outreach activities and events. The goals of the outreach campaign were to:
- Reduce volume of green waste disposal in regional landfills.
- Increase usage of green materials source reduction and on-site management practices.
- Increase usage of recycled organic products in urban landscapes.
- Increase local jurisdictions’ green waste diversion rates to meet mandate requirements.
