Permanent Facility Design
As the household hazardous waste stream has expanded, local jurisdictions are increasingly considering the option of building new permanent HHW facilities to accommodate rising volumes. In response, CalRecycle has published the Permanent Household Hazardous Waste Facility Guidance Document and Permanent Household Hazardous Waste Facility Design Manual. The purpose of these documents is to assist jurisdictions that are considering building permanent HHW facilities. The first document provides an introduction to and overview of the facility design process, while the design manual contains more details, including how to assess the need for a facility, facility/operations costs, and regulatory requirements.

Special Waste Associates has also published a book on facility design titled HHW Collection Facility Design Guide, written by David Nightingale. This book is available for purchase online at www.hhwplus.com.
