Blue Wrap: Plastic

You can reduce your solid waste disposal costs and protect the environment by reducing blue wrap. Among various types of plastics discarded in the health care industry, blue wrap is usually a significant portion of a hospital’s waste stream. Sterile, uncontaminated blue wrap plastic can be diverted from the landfill and recycled, and it can be replaced by alternatives.

The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) can help identify objectives for starting a blue wrap recycling program and can help identify regional suppliers, haulers, brokers, processors, and manufacturers to collect and recycle blue wrap. You may access CalRecycle’s Blue Wrap fact sheet from the publications catalog for more information.

For additional plastics, CalRecycle is researching comprehensive solutions for managing those materials, and mitigating adverse environmental impacts associated with plastic discards by effectively implementing its mandatory plastic programs.
