  • Happy Earth Day, Working Stiffs

Some of us have great jobs—we get paid to protect the environment! Some of us might also have other types of great jobs, or not, but we wonder what we can do for Mother Earth while we’re working for the man.

As part of CalRecycle’s Earth Day celebration, we’re offering the following tips for employees, including ordering a Recycling Starter Kit and reducing waste at work events. And when the weekend comes, be sure to participate in an Earth Day event near you.

  • Keep the Planet Clean--Your Kids Need Fresh Air

Parents, we know you have a lot going on. A lot of us at CalRecycle are parents too! We’re not trying to make things harder for you. In fact, once you get the hang of some of our Earth-protecting tips, you’ll find they’re not all that difficult—it’s just a matter of changing old habits. Shopping for secondhand clothes makes sense, saves money, and isn’t any more difficult than shopping at a retail store. Packing an environmentally friendly lunch can save you money in the long run. • Earth Day Is Coming, and It's All About You

April 22 is Earth Day, our favorite holiday here at CalRecycle. We work all year to protect the planet, and we are lucky to have a lot of allies here in California—from people like you to entire communities pulling together, as well as businesses and lawmakers working on behalf of the environment. Still, it’s fun to have a special day to celebrate the planet and get even more people on board with our environmental ethos.

OK, who are we kidding—we celebrate with Earth Day events all month. So let’s get this party started!

In our recent news release, CalRecycle Director Scott Smithline nailed it when he said, “Environmental progress is achieved one community, one person, and one decision at a time. Whether it’s participating in a community cleanup, attending a local Earth Day festivity, or making simple changes to reduce waste and recycle right, Earth Day is a reminder that a clean California starts with you.”

That’s right: A clean California starts with you.

We’re going to offer five simple tips each day this week to help you get started. We hope you’ll integrate these tips into your daily life so they’ll become ingrained habits that you sustain long after Earth Day is officially over.

Thanks for celebrating with us, and thanks for being our environmental ally.
